What is an end of life vehicle (ELV)?

An End of Life Vehicle (ELV) is a vehicle that reaches the end of its useful life in general after 12 or 15 years. It is also possible to have a premature End of Life Vehicle (ELV) when the car is involved in an accident and also considered an economic total loss. Although a car arrives at the end of its useful life it still has a value. Every End of Life Vehicle (ELV) contains valuable raw materials (steel and, light metals, alloys, etc.). These materials can be recycled and used for new cars or for other purposes. In order to protect the environment and prevent waste, the End of Life Vehicle (ELV) has to be treated, recycled, recovered or re used as spare components for other cars. For more information click here.

Does recycling reduce CO2 emissions?

Making new cars involves the use of many raw materials, from metals and synthetic products to cardboard which all have to be first produced industrially. By recycling materials, the amount of energy used in manufacturing can be reduced, along with factory emissions.

What is the difference between reuse, recycling and recovery of vehicles?

Recycling is the collection of parts of the End of Life Vehicle (ELV) and the process to transform them into materials used in the production of new vehicles or used for other purposes. Reuse is the use of the parts of End of Life Vehicles (ELV) for the same purpose in other Nissan vehicles. Recovery represents the burning of the vehicle materials that cannot be recycled, for the generation of energy.

When was CO2 emissions data first recorded?

1997/1998 was the time manufacturers started recording this information. If the vehicle is covered then the details will be available on the SMMT website

My vehicle is no longer within warranty, will I have to pay for repairs?

For any information regarding repairs, please contact your local Nissan dealer.

I have just bought a vehicle which doesn't have keys / I would like an additional spare key. How do I go about ordering this?

Please visit your local Nissan dealership, who may be able to supply and code keys once ownership records are confirmed. We may not be able to supply keys for vehicles originally supplied outside the European Union, due to differences in security protocol.

Is my vehicle safe to drive?

If there is no warning light but you’re concerned whether your vehicle is safe to drive or not, contact Nissan Roadside Assistance if you are covered on 0330 123 1231. If you do not have Nissan Roadside Assistance you will need to arrange recovery to your closest Nissan dealer if you believe the vehicle is not drivable or visit your local dealer.

My handbook suggests that my vehicle should not be driven at constant speed for long distances, for the first 1,000 miles. What is classed as a long distance?

Your new car will need to be run in, this will involve the engine being loaded in 4th and 5th gear and varying between 50mph and 70mph. During the run in stage, about 100 miles is classed as a long distance.

What mode should be used for towing a caravan with the X-Trail and should the tyre pressure be increased for this purpose?

Auto can be used all of the time. Tyre pressures should be increased, and the correct pressures will be displayed inside the driver door aperure.

Is it necessary to 'run in' a brand new X-Trail before towing a caravan?

A minimum 'run in' of 500 miles is required before towing, with a recommended 'run in' of 1,000 miles.

How can I find the key code of my Nissan vehicle?

The keys to every Nissan vehicle are given a special security code, to prevent the keys being replicated by a third party. For this reason, someone asking for the key code is asked to prove their ownership of the vehicle before the code can be given. Your local authorised Nissan dealer can give you the key code of your vehicle. You should be prepared to present proof of ownership, such as the vehicle registration log book (V5) or original sales documentation. To find details of your local authorised Nissan dealer, please click here.

What does CVT stand for?

Why do I need to provide my mobile phone number to access my connected vehicle data?

To access the download, we’ll send you a notification with a secure link. For security purposes, we'll send you an OTP (One-Time Password) by SMS. Once you enter the OTP in the provided field, you’ll be able to download your data. This helps ensure that only authorized users can access the content.

How can I share my connected vehicle data with a third party?

If you wish to share your connected vehicle data with a third party, please fill out the mandatory fields for sharing data with a third party in the Request your data form, including:

  • Your consent to share the data
  • The third party’s name
  • The third party’s phone number (to verify their identity)

Technical issues

Technical issues

Technical issues

When will the data be available for download?

We're going to provide you with the data available at the time of processing. Data is updated every 24 hours, but delays may occur due to communication issues. If that happens, the data will usually be available the next day.

Why did I not receive any data to download?

There are several reasons why you may not have received data in response to your request. To protect your privacy and ensure the accuracy of information, we verify that the requestor matches the driver during the selected timeframe. Please review the following possible reasons:

Timeframe or usage issue:

  • The selected timeframe doesn’t align with your period of ownership or usage.
  • The vehicle was not driven during the requested period.
  • The vehicle was in Privacy Mode, so no data was transmitted.
  • The vehicle was in an area with poor cellular reception, so data may not have been recorded.

Driver profile issue:

  • If the vehicle was shared and the engine was not turned off between drivers, the data is linked to the last user before the engine was turned off.
  • If a different driver profile was selected while driving the vehicle, data will be attributed to that profile. Switching user profiles during a trip takes effect only after the engine is turned off.

Vehicle pairing & account issues:

  • The email address used in the request doesn’t match the one linked to your Nissan Connected Services (NCS) account.
  • Connected Services were not activated or the vehicle was not paired with your NCS account during the requested period.
  • Your NCS account has been deleted—data associated with it is no longer available.
If your vehicle was re-paired to the same account, data from the first pairing may no longer be accessible.

Vehicle eligibility issue:

  • The VIN entered was incorrect. Please check again and submit a new request.
  • Your vehicle is not supported since it is a legacy model, imported vehicle, or a vehicle manufactured by a partner.
  • Connected Services for your vehicle may have expired. Please check the list of eligible vehicles.
  • The specific data requested is not supported for your vehicle (high-voltage battery data for a non-electric vehicle, for example).

Country restriction issue:

  • Your NCS account was created in a country outside the 27 EU member countries (UK, Norway, Switzerland, for example). Data downloads are currently only available for EU 27 users.
  • Vehicles imported from countries outside the 27 EU member countries are currently not eligible for data downloads.

Timing issue:

  • Data is updated every 24 hours. Information generated in the last 24 hours may not yet be available.
  • Nissan may still be processing your request. Please allow up to 4 weeks before submitting a new one.

How does two-factor authentication (2FA) work for downloading your data?

We use two-factor authentication (2FA) to keep your downloads secure. Here's how it works:

1. Enter your login details:
When you start a download, first log in with your username and password.

2. Receive an OTP (One-Time Password):

  • For Requesters: If you are a requester, an OTP will automatically be sent via SMS to the phone number you provided when filling out the request form on the Nissan website.
  • For Third Parties: If you're a third-party user, you'll need to register your phone number using our self-service tool on the user interface before receiving your OTP.

This extra step ensures that only authorized users can securely access and download the data they need.

What should I do if I don’t receive an OTP (One-Time Password)?

Please check that you entered the correct phone number:

  • If Requester: at the time of the Request
  • If Third Party: when requesting the verification code.

If your number is correct but you still haven't received the one-time password (OTP) after 5-10 minutes, please contact our Data Act Support team here.

What can I do if the data download link doesn’t work?

The download link is only valid for 7 days. If the link has expired, please submit a new request. If the link doesn’t work but has not yet expired, please contact our Data Act Support Team here.

Interpreting the data

Interpreting the data

Interpreting the data

What kind of connected vehicle data is available to download?

You can download some of the data your connected vehicle generates including your trip data, vehicle performance, in-vehicle status and battery & charging information.

To find a detailed overview of all the types of connected vehicle data available, visit the Data Dictionary.

What is the data retention period for connected vehicle data?

Nissan retains connected vehicle data for a limited time, as outlined in the NissanConnect Terms and Conditions (see Section 4.8 – Storage Period). You can request a copy of your connected vehicle data as long as the timeframe requested is within the retention period and no earlier than 12th September 2025 (the date on which the EU Data Act comes into effect).

How can I interpret the data from my connected vehicle?

Your data is displayed in a table with several columns:

  • The first column shows the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • The second column shows the date and time (timestamp)
  • The third column shows your User ID
  • The rest of the columns show different types of data and their values collected from your vehicle

VIN Timestamp User ID SpeedObjDisplayedValue.km/h EngineRPM AdaptiveCruiseControlDisplaySpeedSetting
••••••••••••••• 2023-04-06T18:00:00Z XXXX 31.8 2304 0
••••••••••••••• 2023-04-06T18:00:00Z XXXX 0.0 2304 0
••••••••••••••• 2023-04-06T18:01:00Z XXXX 0.4 1536 0

For more details about each data type, including descriptions and value ranges, visit the Data Dictionary.
Data is accurate as of the time it was collected and compiled into the downloadable file. Data less than 24 hours old may not be included.

Is the data collected by my connected vehicle accurate?

The data is shared exactly as it is collected. However, sensor accuracy might be affected in tunnels or areas with poor signal. As a result, the collected data may occasionally appear unusual or incorrect.

Why does data appear in different rows?

The timing of data collection varies depending on the sensors, and so not all data will appear in the same row and may differ between categories. Some features and data points are only available on specific vehicle models.

Why is there missing data and/or duplicate entries?

Some data like alerts or warnings are only recorded when specific conditions are met. In areas with weak signals such as tunnels, sensors may miss data or collect the same data more than once. Not all data is guaranteed to be recorded accurately every time.

Electric

What is the ULEZ charge?

On 8 April 2019, the first Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) came into effect in the same area as central London’s existing Congestion Charge Zone. Cars, vans and other vehicles coming into the zone need to meet stringent emission standards or pay a daily charge. From 25 October 2021, the area will expand to the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular roads. Birmingham follows suit with plans for their own Clean Air Zone (CAZ) from 2020.

Where is the ULEZ zone?

The ULEZ zone currently occupies the same area as the existing Congestion Charge Zone. However, from 25 October 2021, this area will expand to the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular roads. Birmingham will also follow plans for a similar Clean Air Zone from 2020.

Do electric cars have gears?

No, electric cars (EVs) do not have gears, because they have no gear box.

Why?
EV’s only have one gear, so they have no need for a multi-speed gear box like traditional petrol and diesel cars.
Petrol and diesel cars have multiple gears because there are multiple power bands where the engine works best.
An electric car however can create almost instant torque from a standing start, and get to top speeds using a single gear, without negatively impacting the power or when driving at low speeds.

How do electric cars work?

Unlike traditionally fuelled cars, electric cars don’t have a fuel line, pump or tank. So how do they run?

Under the bonnet is an electric motor, which replaces the traditional combustion engine. A lithium ion battery pack powers the electric motor, and this is what must be charged either at home or on the go at charge-points.

How do you charge an electric car?

Charging your Nissan electric car is easy to do, both at home or on the go.

At Home
Efficiently charge your EV at home either from a domestic socket, or from a Nissan certified 7kW Wallbox you can have installed in your garage.

On the Go
Nissan LEAF is compatible with the CHAdeMO DC charging network found across the UK. With over 2200 compatible rapid chargers available, simply find your closest charge-point and plug your EV in.

Technical Information, Weights and Measurements

What does the term, 'Permitted towing weight/towing capacity' refer to?

The permitted towing weight refers to the maximum weight of a trailer and load which can be towed behind a vehicle. Figures may be given for a braked or unbraked trailer. Towing capacity may vary under certain conditions such as gradient.

What does the term, 'Payload' refer to?

The payload of the vehicle is the gross weight minus the kerb weight of the vehicle. To calculate the cargo weight, any additional weight including the driver, any passenger(s) and other equipment or modifications must be deducted from the payload. Care should be taken to remain within the gross vehicle weight and not exceed permitted axle weights. It is the responsibility of the vehicle operator to ensure that the vehicle does not exceed the weights shown on the VIN plate.

What does the term, 'Load Volume' refer to?

The load volume of a vehicle refers to the amount of cargo that the load area can accommodate, there are several methods used to calculate load volume. The total load volume in some vehicles is calculated by using materials such as sand, which fill the load area (SAE method). Another method more commonly in use (VDA) uses blocks of 200mm x 100mm x 50mm (1 litre volume), stacked to fill the load area. The final count of blocks is given in litres or cubic metres.

What does the term, 'Nose weight' refer to?

The nose weight of a vehicle refers to the vertical weight of the trailer on the hitch ball. This must be taken into consideration to ensure the vehicle permitted axle weights and gross vehicle weights are not exceeded.

What does the term, 'Kerb Weight' refer to?

The kerb weight of a vehicle is the weight of the complete vehicle without any payload and in standard condition, but including a full tank of fuel, oil, water, spare tyre and tools.

Is it possible to get the EXACT kerb weight for a vehicle, rather than the minimum/maximum figures quoted in the brochure?

The only way to obtain the exact weight of a specific vehicle is to put the vehicle on a public weighbridge.
